Buddy's family share, "It’s scary adopting a HW+ dog, but after going through it—especially with your financial help—I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again."
An email from Buddy's family to FoHCAS:
We just wanted to drop you a line and let you know we are easing back into life after a long time of resting…7 weeks down and 3 to go of crate rest. Buddy’s starting to really feel better. He’s easing into activity, and he’s really enjoying the fall the weather up here in PA. It’s perfect for relaxing.
We wanted to take a minute and thank you again for all you did for him and for us. It’s scary adopting a HW+ dog, but after going through it—especially with your financial help—I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. Aside from a few weeks of keeping calm and getting over the initial anxiety (in hindsight there should not have been any anxiety) there was nothing to it.
In fact, him being HW+ made his transition into our family much easier because we had to take it slow. We were forced to follow all the decompression tips provided to us…Like any new pet owners, we were excited and wanted to show him everything and love on him and do all the things that most people want to do when they get a new dog, but because of his HW condition, we had to move slowly. Ideally, that approach is what a dog from the shelter needed, and we had no choice but to put our desires aside to meet those needs. Not that there are any positives to him being neglected in the first place, but an awareness of his additional needs certainly made us follow the decompression rules that are often overlooked by so many.
We learned a lot about his personality because we had no choice to be extend his decompression time. So, thank you for your financial assistance, but more importantly, we wanted you to know that knowing there was a place out there that was willing to help us share in this unfamiliar journey made our dog’s transition into our home successful. Should you EVER need anyone who can talk about how easy it is to save a dog that is HW+, feel free to reach out to us. We’d love to give back to your organization in any way possible.
