Letter from Lord Vader's mom:

When I went to the shelter it was just to look around. I was interested in a dog, so I headed to that section of the facility. It was so noisy and chaotic, most of the dogs were overly excited and barking at the people, some even seemed a little aggressive. I have a cat and two young children, so safety is my main concern with anything.

At the end of one of the kennels I saw him. He was laying there as calm as could be, sad even. I looked at his paper hanging on the cage. Nothing was known about him, he was picked up wandering around a field. He didn't even have a name. I squatted down and he came to see me at the door. I really liked that he was so calm, so I asked to conduct a meet and greet with him in the yard. It went great, he walked on the leash very well. I noticed that besides his extremely matted hair, he seemed to be a well mannered dog who was well fed and loved. I expressed my concern that someone might be looking for him, he must have ran away, but was told he had already been there for several days and no one had come.

It was decided right then and there that I was going to give him the home he deserved. I had to wait two days so he could be neutered, and when I went back to pick him up I swear he remembered me and seemed instantly happy. Since bringing him home, I can see such an improvement in his mood. He is so happy all of the time. We named him Lord Vader, yes we are Star Wars fans! He is so gentle and playful with my kids, he has a blast in the garden with my husband, but his favorite thing seems to be riding shotgun with me anywhere. You can just see the difference in his face from his shelter photo and the one with me in the car. He knows this is his home now and forever.
