Scooby's mom shares, "I sat down on the curb and he came right up to my face, paused for a moment smelled me and put his nose on my scar - it was almost like our scars bonded us, like he knew. From that moment I knew my husband read his eyes right - he picked us and we are so happy that he is with us."
Scooby's new mom shares how they met!
It was a Saturday. My husband and I were not in the market for a new family member; we were at the shelter to support our sister and nephew in search for their new furry friend. We left them to their search and walked through the kennels of the facility. When we came back out my husband saw "Baron" walk up with Angela, set up under the tent and get in the kennel. It was love at first sight! Once my husband made eye contact with him, he knew that the dog had chosen us. It took a little more convincing for me. I had been attacked several years earlier and was bitten in the face by a dog we had for 5 months (and that we knew before taking him in) I was not sure that I was ready to take this step. Scooby had other plans. You can tell by looking at him that his life had not been perfect and he had it pretty rough. Angela his foster mom who rescued him a week earlier from being euthanized, talked to us, and showed us pictures of how he had taken to her family and other pets. She worked with him all week and taught him how to sit, he was very well mannered. As we talked and got to know a little more about her time with him, it was becoming clear. Time to meet him outside of the kennel, she knew my story and so we went away from that Saturday crowd and I faced my "fear". Knowing animals and how they sense, I made sure that we could both be real with each other. I sat down on the curb and he came right up to my face, paused for a moment smelled me and put his nose on my scar - it was almost like our scars bonded us, like he knew. From that moment I knew my husband read his eyes right - he picked us and we are so happy that he is with us. We were not sure of his name, he was Hugh in the shelter and then Baron in his foster home...after a day with him it was clear with his personality, Scooby was the perfect name!
